Mark Shirley was convicted of the ritualized murder of 67 year old widow Mary Wainwright and jailed for life in 1987. After serving 16 years in prison he was released on a life licensed to attack again. Having been released, recalled to prison and then let out again, he broke all his license rules several times especially on the 20th March 2009.

When he broke into 39 year old Helen Stockford’s house, he attempted to copycat how he killed Mary Wainwright 22 years ago by sexually brutalizing Helen Stockford for five hours around her home, on her kitchen table. Mark Shirley was found guilty of six charges those charges being: false imprisonment, committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence, rape and three charges of assault by penetration. He was given six life sentences with a nine year tariff.
